General Information for Filing a Divorce
To file for a divorce in Georgia, one person in the couple must be a resident and have been a resident of Georgia for at least the past six months, and a resident of the county in which the divorce is filed (other processes can be pursued to protect yourself, the children, and your financial circumstances if it has been less than six months). After the initial filing, Georgia law requires that only thirty days need to pass before a final judgment of divorce can be entered by the court.
